VERNON – One is expected to excel, the other continues to surprise.

Hosts Canada and visitors China added to their win column in Sunday night action at the 2008 Ford World Women's Curling Championship. Canada's Jennifer Jones dismantled Germany's Andrea Schoepp 11-6 while China's Bingyu Wang dispatched Scotland's Gail Munro 8-4.

"We've had a good start to the event, which can be a challenge for us," said Canadian second Jill Officer. "We're happy with our standing."

"Besides the curling, the whole atmosphere has been fantastic," said Jones. "I don't want it to end."

Schoepp hit the ice less than an hour after her draining 12-11 extra-end loss to Switzerland in the afternoon draw. She started well with a deuce but Canada replied in kind and then cracked a five-ender in the fourth for a 7-3 lead.

Jones had earlier scored six against the Czech Republic in the afternoon draw.

China continues to surprise, not only with their 3-0 record but the nature of their wins. Two traditional curling powers, Scotland and Sweden, have been emphatically beaten and China's come-from-behind victory over Russia.

"It's a good start," said Wang. "We hope we can keep it going but it doesn't matter – as long as we keep playing well."

In other night games, Switzerland's Mirjam Ott outscored a stubborn Czech Republic 9-5 and Russia won their first, a 7-5 contest over Sweden.

Highlights of Monday action to come include China versus Denmark in the morning, Grmany against the United States in the afternoon, and Switzerland versus Sweden in the evening.
