VERNON – Sweden and China earned wins in morning draw action on day two at the 2008 Ford World Women's Curling Championship.
Sweden's Stina Viktorsson defeated Scotland's Gail Munro 9-5 to avenge Saturday's upset loss to China. The Swedes fought back from a 3-1 deficit with deuces in the fourth and ninth ends and also stole two points in the seventh end.
China's Bingyu Wang stole victory from Russia's Liudmila Privivkova when the Russian skip was heavy with a tap on her last rock of the game. Russia came home one point up and with last rock advantage, but the Chinese stole two for the unexpected 8-7 win.
The Russians started strongly, taking four in the second end and stealing a point in the third for a 5-1 lead.
China is at 2-0, while Russia is in early trouble at 0-2. Sweden and Scotland are both at 1-1.
Switzerland meets Germany to highlight fourth-draw action Sunday afternoon. In other matches, Canada meets the Czech Republic, the United States battles winless Italy and undefeated Denmark takes on Japan. |
