Playoffs on deck at World Senior Championships Print E-mail

VIERUMAKI – The men require a tiebreaker and the women are headed for same as the playoffs are up next at the 2008 World Senior Men's Championship.

In men's action, Canada, Sweden and and the United States are through to the semifinals and Finland will battle Scotland in a tiebreaker.

Canada's Pat Ryan finished first at 8-0 and Sweden's Per Lindeman claimed second at 7-1 in the "Red" Pool. In the "Blue" Pool the United States (David Russell), Finland (Mauro Nummila) and Scotland (Graeme Adam) all finished at 7-1 and all beat up on each other in the round-robin. That puts the U.S. through to the semis thanks to their top score in the Draw Shot Challenge, while Finland and Scotland will meet in a tiebreaker on Friday.

In Senior Women's action, tiebreakers are looming large as the final draw is set for Friday morning. Finland's Helena Timonen and Canada's Diane Foster lead the pack at 6-2 but no less than four teams are tied for second with 5-3 records: defending champions Sweden (Ingrid Meldahl), Scotland (Kirsty Letton), the United States (Pamela Oleinik) and Switzerland (Renate Nedkoff).
