Norway to defend World Wheelchair title Print E-mail

SURSEE – Norway's Rune Lorentsen will defend his World Wheelchair Curling Championship title when he takes on Korea's Hak Sung Kim in the 2008 final on Saturday.

The 2007 champions defeated Canada's Gerry Austgarden 6-5 in the semifinal, when Canadian fourth thrower Darryl Neighbour missed a takeout for the win in the final end. Norway stole two for the victory, after taking a critical two in the previous end.

"I feel a little bit empty right now, but I will be excited soon," said Lorentsen.

"I felt I kept my cool and made my shots, and then I couldn't do any more. There are misses in this game, and they can happen, so I could only watch."

The Canadians have lost four games in a row but still have a crack at the bronze medal tomorrow, when they meet up with Augusto Perez of the United States.

Lorentsen is facing an intimidating opponent in Korea, which iholds a record of 8-2 in the competition.

"But we are one of the teams who beat them," Lorentsen pointed out, with a wink.
